ACC Plan Consolidation

Insurance

Starting January 1, 2027, RPB’s long term disability (LTD) and life insurance plans will replace ACC’s, offering more benefits and new opportunities to enroll. If you have insurance through ACC, your ACC coverage will end on December 31, 2026.

Read on to learn what’s changing, how to keep your coverage, or how to enroll for the first time.

Long term disability (LTD)

RPB offers more opportunities to get LTD insurance. If you missed ACC’s enrollment window or you're a GTM member, you may now qualify.

  • Broader eligibility: Anyone working in the Reform Movement can enroll in RPB’s LTD plan without joining the retirement plan. If you work outside the Reform Movement, you’ll need to participate in RPB’s retirement plan to enroll in LTD.
  • Part-time employees: Cantors and temple musicians who work at least 18 hours a week can enroll.

If your ACC LTD coverage is ending and you don't qualify for RPB LTD, contact GBA by December 31, 2026, to buy an individual policy.

  • Expanded benefits, including:
    • Own occupation coverage. If your disability prevents you from singing, RPB’s plan will cover you for the full duration of your disability, even if you’re able to do other work.
    • Higher disability benefits for higher earners. RPB’s plan uses income up to $340,000 to calculate disability benefits, compared with ACC’s $240,000 limit.
    • Retirement contribution insurance. If you’re contributing 10% or more of your compensation to your retirement account, your employer’s contributions continue for the length of your disability, at no extra cost.
    • A choice of waiting periods. Choose a 90- or 180-day waiting period, depending on what fits your budget and needs.
    • Additional benefits, including rehabilitation incentives, a cost-of-living adjustment, and continued payments to your beneficiary if you die while on disability.

How to enroll:

If you already have ACC LTD insurance: As part of the transition, we’ll work with your employer to enroll you in RPB’s LTD plan. You don’t need to do anything unless we contact you. Do not pay GBA for LTD insurance after December 31.

If you want LTD insurance for the first time: Contact your employer to enroll during RPB’s open enrollment period, December 1 through January 29. Only your employer can enroll you.

How to pay: Your employer will pay RPB directly for your LTD insurance. If you pay for your own insurance, you’ll repay your employer. Insurance premiums are based on the compensation your employer reports to RPB.

If your employer won’t enroll you, contact RPB for help.

Additional coverage details:
  • Changing employers: Your LTD coverage doesn’t move with you. To keep your coverage, your new employer must re-enroll you. This makes sure your benefits are based on your new compensation. Your former employer will get a refund for any unused premium.
  • Pre-existing conditions: Time insured under your ACC policy counts toward the pre-existing condition look-back period in the new policy.
  • Currently receiving disability benefits: If you’re currently on a claim, your benefits continue. The consolidation doesn’t affect them.

If you’d like dependent coverage, or you’re not eligible for RPB’s plan, you can get an individual policy through Group Benefit Associates

Life insurance

RPB’s life insurance plan includes basic life insurance—at no additional cost for eligible participants—and the option to buy more coverage.

Read below to learn about your options and how to get coverage.

Basic life insurance
  • Included coverage. If your total retirement contributions are at least 10% of your compensation, you’ll automatically receive up to $50,000 in basic life insurance and $30,000 in accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) coverage at no extra cost. You don’t need to sign up, but be sure to name your life insurance beneficiaries in the MyRPB for Participants portal.
Supplemental life insurance
  • More coverage if you want it. If you qualify for basic life insurance, you can also buy supplemental life insurance for added protection.
  • Special enrollment opportunity. From January 1 through April 30, 2027, all working retirement plan participants who qualify for basic life insurance—not just the newly ordained—can buy supplemental life insurance without medical underwriting during the guaranteed-issue period. You can purchase up to $300,000 in coverage or twice your compensation, whichever is less. If you want more coverage or apply after April 30, you’ll need to complete a Statement of Health for underwriting.
  • Higher coverage limits. You can buy up to $600,000 in supplemental life insurance with a Statement of Health.
  • Coverage that grows with your compensation. You choose coverage based on a multiple of your compensation, rather than a fixed dollar amount. Your coverage can grow as your compensation increases, up to the plan limit.
If you already have ACC life insurance
  • Your ACC life insurance will end on December 31, 2026. If your current coverage is $50,000 or less and you qualify for RPB’s basic life insurance, you don’t need to buy more coverage. If you want coverage beyond the included amount, you can purchase supplemental life insurance through RPB.
If RPB coverage isn’t available
  • Coverage for dependents: RPB’s supplemental life insurance does not cover dependents. To keep coverage you have through ACC, contact GBA before December 31, 2026, to buy an individual policy.
  • Coverage if you’re not eligible: If you have ACC life insurance but don’t qualify for RPB’s plan, contact GBA before December 31, 2026, to buy an individual policy for yourself.
